Thảm (Safety mat) là thiết bị giúp phát hiện sự hiện diện của vật thể, hoạt động dựa vào nguyên tắc áp lực.
Mỗi chiếc thảm an toàn có cấu tạo cơ bản là một công tắc thường mở đơn giản. Khi có con người bước chân lên thảm, sức nặng của con người sẽ đè lên công tắc và đóng công tắc đó lại; khi đó, một tín hiệu dừng máy sẽ được gửi tới máy.
Cũng giống như máy quét laser khu vực, có chức năng bảo vệ an toàn trong một vùng rộng, giúp cách ly con người với vùng nguy hiểm. Thảm an toàn được sử dụng khi điều kiện môi trường không phù hợp để sử dụng máy quét laser khu vực
